Monday 5/15
Kenn said "HI" a week ago. PRAISE GOD!!! He
spoke again. What a mile stone. I've been
telling the nurses that he's going to talk again
and he did. He's been making vocal noises since
his seizure. The nurses have said he seems to be
focusing more and tracking all this past week.
Praise God he went eight days with no neurostorming
but, this morning he started neurostoming. Also,
when I got there late this afternoon he was
neurostoming again. I started talking to him and
found a washcloth to get wet and wipe him off. He
was drenched in sweat. His gown was soaked in sweat.
I was talking to him and telling him to relax, and take
some deep breaths. He started calming down just having
me there talking to him and touching him, even before they
had given him medication for his neurostorming. He
sure acted like he wanted to talk. I found that his
feeding tube had also come out, the nurse replaced it and
said this happens. He also seemed to be more in the
present tonight and was making noises as though trying
to put more sound behind the noise. His fingers on his
right hand are much more relaxed since the botox.
They are also trying to get him out of his room more often
when he is in his chair, like taking him down to the day room.
Last Thursday afternoon, he was taken across the street
to the Brain Injury Wing to see Dr. Ward so the dosage of
his pump could be turned up. Dr. Ward was there to see other
residents also. When he was over there some guy was talking
with a deep voice. Kenn heard him and started looking around
from what I was told. No one knows if the seizure means his
brain is working more or what. Esther talked to her dad on my
cell with the headphone in his ear tonight. She was telling him
to talk and then he would make that vocal noise. I visited him
before I went across the street to my support meeting and then I
went back to see how he was doing after the meeting.
I had a good Mother's Day. I am so blessed because I have
realized how much deeper my love is for Kenn since his accident.
I never fully realized what a great guy he is either until his
accident. I guess you don't realize this stuff until something
like this happens because life keeps you busy and you take each
other for granted even though you don't think you do. I also found
out the morning of Mother's Day that my aunt died of kidney cancer.
She's 10 years younger than my mom. She died just 6 weeks after
her husband died. So there's another funeral to go to on Thursday
morning which will be hard because it means it will be an emotional
day for me. God is so good He'll give me the strength to make it
through. God bless you all.
Carol
