Sunday, August 14 update

Sun 8/14/
As I visited Kenn this afternoon I read to him and talked to
himabout what is going on. I heard him make a small noise
this afternoon. After they got him up, I took him across
the street to the garden and we sat there for awhile.
He acted like he was dozing off and on. He has his
right foot cast off because he has a sore on the right side
of his ankle. This cast will be off until the sore heals.
He has a cast on his left foot now. He also has a cast on
his left arm to help keep it a little straighter because he
wanted to keep it bent. The cast on his arm will be on for
a short time and then they will change the cast on his arm with
it in a different positon. This is what is called serial
casting. The right arm has what is called a soft cast,
which is a cast that has been cut the full length of the
cast and has velcro straps to enable them to put it on for 2 hours
and remove it easily for another 2 hours.
They want to be careful with his right shoulder when they
put this right one on. On 8/9, the occupational therapist
wrote, Kenn will be wearing a right elbow soft cast. He will
be alternating wearing it with his right hand brace. He will
be using a lap tray for positioning his elbows. On the same
day the physical therapist wrote, We continue to work on relaxing,
then moving eyes and neck. Able to go right controlled
with delay. Unable to come back left controlled. Occasional weight
bearing. On 8/10, the speech therapist wrote, in speech session,
unable to differentiate between active and nonactive movement.
He continues to resist stimulation to inside of mouth, but
when relaxed, I have been able to get in there.
Limited tongue movement still. They have not been
using any kind of standing table because of his cast on his ankle.
The physical therapist did say she has seen an improvement on his
right foot since having the cast on.
