Monday, October 3 update

Monday 10/3
On Wednesday 9/28, the speech therapist wrote: "during
speech therapy today, Kenn made some sounds (voicing)
without any motor movement (mouth was closed) in
response to clincian asking him to make speech attempts.
Again, hard to tell if they really were speech
attempts. He fell asleep soon afterwards."

I visited Kenn yesterday. When I got there he was
resting in bed. He was wide awake. He was moving
his tongue alot but still no sounds. He looked like he
wanted to talk. He still has a cast on both feet and
this past week they put a cast on his right arm.
Our son, Shawn and his family were there visiting him.
When they got him up in his wheelchair he seemed to want
to doze. He watched some of what was going on. We took
him outside to the gazebo. He seemed to be sleeping the
whole time. Late afternoon they needed to lay him down
for a rest period. While laying down he started
neurostorming. He got real stiff, sweaty, and was
breathing heavier and faster. After a while, I took his
left hand and told him to relax. I continued encouraging
him and eventually he did relax his left hand and arm so it
went down to his side. I got him to do this more than once.
His breathing came back to normal also when he relaxed.
When he wanted to bring his left arm back up to his chest,
I would kiss him on his mouth. He then relaxed his arm again.
I kept doing this when he would try to tense up. It would
help him to relax. He would forget all about tensing up.
It was fun to watch his reaction.
The CNA's tell me there are times that he presses the call
light when he moves his left hand while laying in bed.
The light is clipped to his sheet on his chest. I'm sure
he does it by accident. It's interesting to hear
this.
There will be a staff meeting on Tuesday morning Oct. 11, at
Clearview for any family members that may have any questions
or would like to hear first hand what is going on with Kenn.
The meeting is at 10 A.M.
