Wednesday, 9/21
Well, today was our 32nd wedding anniversary.
I met Kenn at the Kettle Maraine State Park this
morning. A group of them from Clearview arrived
for a few hours to use the handicapped cabin. Some
from Clearview had stayed there Tuesday night and
different ones tonight and others will stay tomorrow
night. The Recreational Therapist invited me to visit
and check out the place because handicapped people and
their families can use it. It was beautiful there.
We walked from the cabin down to the pier where some
were fishing. The weather today was so beautiful. I guess
Kenn didn't sleep real good last night. Well...
today at the park he wanted to sleep just about the
whole time. I just want to take this opportunity to thank
everyone at the park for making my visit very enjoyable
today. Thank you! Some of the different therapists
were there too and worked with some of the residents
from Clearview. The afternoon turned out to be a little
emotional for me off and on but I got through it.
On Monday 9/19, the Speech Therapist wrote in the notebook
that she saw Kenn in his room. She cleaned his mouth and
then laid him far back in his chair and did some facial massage.
At one point his Recreational Therapist came in to tell
him he'd be going to "camp" on Wed. instead of Thurs.
Several minutes later the Speech Therapist asked him if that
was okay with him. He was clenching his jaw tightly, but
she pressed on his chin (pulling downward to attempt to
loosen his jaw). His mouth opened and either he exhaled
audibly or he said/whispered something like "yeah." He
did not do it again, but maybe?? We'll keep encouraging him.
It's great that the Speech Therapist is seeing alittle
more response from Kenn now.
Carol
