Sunday 9/11
The Trade Center ordeal was 4 years ago on this date
and it's also been 7 months since Kenn's accident.
This afternoon when I went to visit Kenn,
our two granddaughters were with me and were very good.
When I got there he was in bed for a rest period. I
talked to him and he would look at me intently. He
was making some noise in his throat but not talking.
On Wednesday 9/7, the speech therapist said that Kenn
coughed when a cold swab was put on the back of his throat.
She told him that the voice he made when he coughed was
like the voice he should make to talk and to attempt it
again. He began moving his tongue slightly as if trying to
talk. She hasn't seen this since right after his seizure.
No words came out but it did appear to be an attempt to talk.
He will have an intrathecal baclofen pump put in his abdomen
at the waistline. This will automatically release a
medication into his body to help relax his muscles. He is so
tensed up and the doctor figures he is uncomfortable. I was
told this will take place at the U.W. Hospital, which will
be less driving for me because I want to be there with him.
I'm not sure when this will be scheduled. There is a test
that needs to be done before the pump can be put in.
The adult group home I visited near Portage on Thursday morning,
was very impressive. So now we'll just wait to see what is ahead.
